More than anything, I want this post to be a ‘celebrate the genius of Pacific Yew’ one. Having made music for a while now, the Fort Worth, Texas producer has been on fire lately with some great releases. I recently copped his (((( ..Lamest Days )))) project, which came out earlier this year in February. It was an ambient and slow project creating such an ethereal and spiritual atmosphere. Pacific Yew’s talents lie beyond just composing sounds together, his ability to create such a profound mood within his music- whether this through his spoken word- like poetry on his previous project, or the silky synths that just touch a chord in your soul, there’s something about his music that just clicks with me on a profound level.
On this new release (I say new, but he says they are circa 2015) titled (((( T r e e s )))), Pacific Yew takes a more dynamic and jazzy approach to his sound. With gorgeous key progressions throughout this album, impeccable drumming and groovy basslines, it’s a perfect soundtrack to vibe to, to think to, to bob your head to, to fall in love to. The changes and progressions in tempo are a work of art on this project, and I only hope Pacific Yew gets more recognition for the hard work he puts into his craft, because he’s one of the best musicians at the moment.
