Future Bubblers is relatively new idea which stemmed from Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood Recordings Label – a talent discovery and development project in collaboration with Arts Council England aimed to mentor talented young musicians to grow and develop as artists. With mentors, this is a long-term project aimed to really support young talents find their own identity, grow musically and develop their artistic abilities as a whole.
Future Bubblers 1.0 showcases the talents of the artists in the first year of the project’s existence. The compilation album features the extremely gifted and powerful neo-soul singer and musician Yazmin Lacey, groove-based electronic and jazz trio Three Body Trio, smooth downtempo producer Medikul, colourful electronic producer Revenu, hip-hop and grime beat wizard Snowy, hip-hop and neo-soul producers Congi (their song ‘Red’ featuring Yazmin Lacey is my personal favourite on the project), gifted singer-songwriter Kid Katharsis, minimalist dancehall-inspired musician Thru Colours and soulful, groove-centric producer Munro. The diversity in this lineup of talents shows how open Future Bubblers and Brownswood Recordings are to new and innovative sounds. The initiative and goals they aim to achieve with this project is to be admired and applauded.
There are Year 2 bubblers as well, new additions to the already impressive team. For their third year of artist digging, Future Bubblers are focusing on artists in Southampton and Liverpool. More information with arise in the near future about that.
This program is incredibly inspiring, and its great to see organisations such as the Arts Council England, Help Musicians UK, PRS For Music foundation and even Ableton partner with this programme and help it become successful.
