Iglooghost has been an exciting and talked about producer for a couple of years now. Signed to Brainfeeder, the young artist released Chinese Nü Yr EP, an album delving into the world of footwork, 2-step garage and colourful electronic music.
Two years later, Iglooghost released his highly anticipated debut album Neō Wax Bloom, which I can only describe as absolutely bonkers. The high energy of the detailed production techniques utilised throughout this project is unlike anything I’ve ever heard. The dynamic high-energy footwork rhythms are accompanied by quirky synths, vocal distortions and effects, heavy bass and crazy beats. If Hayao Miyazaki’s vision for Spirited Away was fuelled by shrooms and put into music, this would be the result. This is more than just high-paced ‘turn up’ music, though if I had to turn up to one album this year, it would definitely be this one. It is a very detailed dive into the complexities and intricacies of the electronic music, but to be honest, this album has more to do with experimental jazz music than it does with anything else. It is an innovative and lively psychedelic trip which requires full attention and energy.
A big shoutout to Flying Lotus and the Brainfeeder crew for constantly putting out forward-thinking music.
